Don’t miss out on the Brazoria County Fair this year

October has arrived, and it’s time to head out to the Brazoria County Fair!

Residents from around the county ages 55-plus are invited to Senior Citizen Day at the Brazoria County Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

This popular event will be at the Leo Martin Chevrolet Auditorium and is sponsored this year by Olin & Norrell Construction.

It will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with registration at 8 a.m., followed by doughnuts and coffee.

Between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., seniors can visit fair exhibits and vendor booths and have lunch while socializing with friends, and it’s all free!

Some senior recreation programs, such as Angleton’s Silver Hearts, will be offering transportation as a group, so those involved in such a program may want to see if there’s room to join one of them, especially those who don’t have a vehicle or who are unable to drive for some reason.

For the hundreds of seniors who will be driving themselves, free parking will be available outside the auditorium at the fairgrounds, located at 901 S. Downing Road in Angleton. For information, call (979) 849-6416.

The Brazoria County Fair begins Friday, Oct. 14, and wraps up on Sunday, Oct. 22, with Saturday, Oct. 21, being the last day of full fair fun for the general public.

This year’s Fair theme is about Generations of Traditions.

Another free Fair event seniors and their families - especially grandchildren - may enjoy is the annual County Fair Parade. It will be Saturday, Oct. 15, starting at 10 a.m. in downtown Angleton on Hwy. 288-B and turning onto part of Highway 35 where 288-B and Highway 35 intersect downtown.

Plan to arrive early to find parking since some streets will be blocked off for the parade and make sure to bring comfortable folding chairs.

Taking water, or something to drink, might be a good idea, and since our weather in Texas is unpredictable this time of year, a jacket or umbrella could come in handy.

The grand marshals of the 2022 Parade will be the 12 and under Pearland All-Stars and coaching staff, who are the Little League Southwest Regional Champions.
